Description

FOLLOWING THE EVENTS OF "THE PERFECT PEAR", THIS WILL PROBABLY BE MODIFIED.

Here's the third MLP family tree I've made. ^^  This documents the relations and ancestry of Big McIntosh's, Applejack's, and Apple Bloom's father.

There are 77 ponies pictured in this family tree, with a total of 85 if one includes those that were only mentioned as well.  Most of those depicted in this tree are canon characters from the show or characters from the MLP Comics of IDW.

For references to locations, please visit the following map!

    o   vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/m…

In addition to using canon characters and original characters of my own, I have also used (with permission, of course) some original characters from other Deviants to not only enhance the quality of my own work, but more importantly to draw attention to the work and contributions of others who also love this franchise! ^^

I'd like this genealogy project to have input from others; for the time being, I am open to suggestions and changes.

Also, if you're curious about the other Apple family trees...

Finally, if there's anything you'd like to ask, please do!

And now, without further interruption, here are the biographies of those depicted in this family tree...

OZARK TRAIL
Race = Earth
Residence = Northern hinterland of the Hayseed Swamps
Occupation = Farmer
Personality Traits = Plain Spoken; Soft Spoken; Stern; Stubborn
--Likes/Hobbies:  Hard Work; Farming; Woodworking
--Dislikes:  Laziness; Dishonesty
Cutie-Mark = A Winding Trail with a Pine Tree
Relatives:
--Prairie Fire (Wife)
--Oakey Smoke (Son)
--Brown "Brownie" Sugar (Daughter-in-law)
--Goldie Delicious (Granddaughter)
--Pokey Oaks (Son)
--Sew ‘n Sow (Daughter-in-Law)
--Prairie Tune (Grandson)
--Happy Trails (Grandson)
--Granny Smith (Granddaughter)

  • Ozark Trail’s family lived in the Horseshoe Bay area and the southeastern coasts near it for centuries.  His family’s homestead was located on the fringes of the Hayseed Swamps, on fertile semi-hilled land of several acres that was surrounded by dense woodlands and connected by a trail that led to nearby small villages.  Ozark’s life went on for many years in mundane regularity until the Great Slump (an economic depression that hit Equestria when his sons, Oakey Smoke and Pokey Oaks, were adolescent stallions).  During the Slump (which lasted most of the decade), the value of Equestria’s currency plummeted, and selling off surplus produce for increasingly devalued bits put financial strain on the farm.  In the midst of these difficult times, Ozark’s wife Prairie Fire died of food poisoning.  Both of his sons helped out on the farm until Oakey Smoke took a job as an accountant in Baltimare, sending whatever money he could back to support his family.  Ozark’s second son, Pokey Oaks, stayed on, and soon met his future wife Sew ‘n Sow, the daughter of a semi-prosperous apple-grower and merchant named Apple Seed.  Not long after Pokey’s marriage, Ozark Trail died of a heart attack (brought about by years of stress, depression and over-exertion).

PRAIRIE FIRE
Race = Earth
Residence = Northern hinterland of the Hayseed Swamps
Occupation = Farmer
Personality Traits = Plain Spoken; Stern, yet Loving
--Likes/Hobbies:  Cooking; Gardening; Warmth; Summer

--Pokey Oaks (Son)
--Sew ‘n Sow (Daughter-in-Law)
--Prairie Tune (Grandson)
--Happy Trails (Grandson)
--Granny Smith (Granddaughter)

  • Prairie Fire was a typical rural mare.  Devoted to her husband and sons, she also equally devoted herself to the maintenance of her home.  Like many rural ponies of her era, she (and her husband) exuded much pride in hard work and the rewards it brought.  Laziness and apathy were hardly tolerated.  Following her marriage to Ozark Trail, she hardly left the farm except when visiting her relatives – daily chores and raising her two sons took up a great deal of her time and energy.  Life went on as normal until a bad harvest season, which was soon followed by the Great Slump.  Economic hardship put tremendous strain on both her and her husband to make ends meet.  Although both her sons were now working full-time on the farm, it didn’t alleviate her growing physical weakness.  Sadly, in the depths of hard times, she died of complications from food poisoning.

--Prairie Tune (Nephew)
--Happy Trails (Nephew)
--Granny Smith (Niece)

  • A native of the Hayseed Swamps region, anypony who ever met Oakey Smoke could never tell that he hailed from there:  his mannerisms and professionalism all reflected his education and occupation as an accountant.  Following the death of his mother in the midst of the Great Slump, Oakey Smoke (already skilled in math) decided to become an accountant in order to better provide for his family.  He moved to Baltimare, and sent a good portion of his income back to his father and brother in order to support the family’s small farm.  Following the death of his father, however, Pokey Oaks wrote to inform him that the farm had been foreclosed, making financial support redundant.  Introverted with a somewhat stiff demeanor, he nonetheless was able to attract the attention of a young, beautiful candy seller – Brown “Brownie” Sugar.  After a traditional courtship, the two married, and within a few years had their only foal – Goldie Delicious.  Throughout most of Goldie’s fillyhood, the family lived in suburban Baltimare.  However, after hearing about the recent success of his brother in Ponyville, he decided (after Pokey Oaks offered) to help manage the finances of Sweet Apple Acres.  After moving himself and his family to Ponyville, he found abundant opportunity for his accounting skills in various emerging small businesses in the new town, in addition to managing the finances of Sweet Apple Acres (he soon found himself overstretched in his work, and decided to teach his niece Granny Smith how to manage the farm’s finances).  Throughout his adult life, Oakey’s life-long interests have been genealogy and cats. He amassed a good deal of research on both his family and that of his sister-in-law Sew ‘n Sow; he was also fond of raising cats and making homemade cat treats.  He died 12 years after his daughter's marriage.
  • Goldie Delicious mentions Oakey Smoke in the Enterplay collectible card game:

  • A native of Baltimare’s suburbs, Brown Sugar (always known as “Brownie” to friends and family) was a hard-working, attentive mare who found purpose working in her family’s confectionery shop.  Living a generally normal life into early adulthood, she met the reserved yet affectionate Oakey Smoke at a local gala.  After a few dates, the two soon began to court, and were married within 3 years.  Not long after the marriage, their only foal Goldie Delicious was born.  She continued to work in her family’s business while her husband became the business’s accountant.  After hearing about the success of her brother-in-law Pokey Oaks in Ponyville, the family decided to join them there.  Once settled, she established a small confectionery shop that was popular in the new town.  Along with her husband, Brownie enjoyed raising cats and greatly helped her husband in the making of his homemade cat treats, which were sold at her confectionery shop and subsequently became locally popular with cat owners.  After the death of her husband, she gradually relinquished the day-to-day operations of her store to her daughter.  She died almost 15 years after her husband.

  • By the time his zap apple jam products became popular, Pokey Oaks never could have imagined that he would be successful at anything.  Growing up poor in the hinterlands of the expansive Hayseed Swamp, both of his parents were dead by the time he was a young adult stallion.  One day, while selling produce at a local market, he met Sew ‘n Sow, who was also selling some of her own homemade blankets, quilts, and other woven products.  A courtship eventually began (with Sew soon moving in with him) and after a few years, they were married.  They eventually had three offspring:  Prairie Tune, Happy Trails, and Apple “Annie” Smith (Granny Smith).  After weathering through the hard economic times of the Great Slump, his family farm (which had been in dire financial straits for many years) was nonetheless foreclosed when Annie was only a foal.  The family soon took to the road, traveling throughout Equestria (mainly as far south as the Macintosh Hills and as far north as western Manehattan), and made their living by collecting seeds and selling them at whatever markets they stopped at.  After years of wandering in search for a place to settle down, Pokey and Sew finally took a liking to an area of land where they had camped for several days, not too distant from Canterlot.  Wanting an official claim to the land, Pokey planned to seek an audience with royal officials in Canterlot while attending a fair in the city.  When the day came however, they ended up meeting Princess Celestia herself (she happened to be attending the fair at the time, where the family was selling some of their seeds; they managed to get her attention and have an audience with her).  Having little money to obtain claimant papers for the uninhabited land, they offered her a bag of some rare seeds.  The princess agreed to the deal, and the land was theirs.

                          o   The rest is history:  mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Family_Appr…

  • After Ponyville and Sweet Apple Acres were firmly established, Pokey Oaks and his family were finally able to live a stable, rewarding lifestyle (the occasional bad harvest or bat infestation not withstanding).  From then on, Pokey’s life was filled with success and satisfaction, both in work and family life.  By the time both of his sons and their growing families left Ponyville for greater opportunities, and following the marriage of his daughter and the birth of her son, Pokey was finally able to comfortably retire (his son-in-law, Quick Pace, took over his responsibilities).  He died almost 8 years after his retirement.

APPLE SEED
Race = Earth
Residence = Area just west of Baltimare
Occupation = Farmer & Merchant
Personality Traits = Outspoken; Gregarious; Generous; Great Sense of Humor; Dignified
--Likes/Hobbies:  Tending his Small Orchard; Good Hard Cider; Socializing with Friends; Storytelling
--Dislikes:  Laziness; Thieves; Cheaters; Liars
Cutie-Mark = Several Apple Seeds
Relatives:

--Happy Trails (Grandson)
--Granny Smith (Granddaughter)
--Applesauce (Daughter)
--Desert Rose (Son-in-Law)
--Candy Twirl (Granddaughter)
--Apple Rose (Granddaughter)

  • Apple Seed was a gregarious stallion about town.  For several generations, his family maintained a small apple orchard of only three acres.  Nonetheless, it made him one of the more prosperous farmers in the area, allowing him and his family to live in relative comfort.  Married to his longtime lover Crabapple, they ultimately had two daughters, Sew ‘n Sew and Applesauce.  With the onset of the Great Slump, many townsfolk looked to him for assistance (particularly for food).  Hard times put financial strains on the farm, but it fared better than other farms in the area. Following the marriage of his daughters and the dissipation of the Great Slump, he continued to maintain his local prominence by sponsoring and occasionally hosting various events in nearby villages and providing assistance and advice to other local small fruit growers.  Up to the end of his life, he and his wife Crabapple maintained a healthy correspondence with their daughters and their families.

CRABAPPLE
Race = Earth
Residence = Area just west of Baltimare
Occupation = None (Local Socialite)
Personality Traits = Sweet-Natured; Demure; Elegant; Nurturing; Very Friendly
--Likes/Hobbies:  Sewing; Music; Painting; Warm Summer Nights
--Dislikes:  Excessive Bombast; Liars; Bad Manners
Cutie-Mark = Apple Tree with Green Apples
Relatives:

--Happy Trails (Grandson)
--Granny Smith (Granddaughter)
--Applesauce (Daughter)
--Desert Rose (Son-in-Law)
--Candy Twirl (Granddaughter)
--Apple Rose (Granddaughter)

  • Graceful with a somewhat shy demeanor, Crabapple was considered one of the most intelligent and beautiful mares in the region.  Naturally, she was the envy of almost every ambitious stallion in the area (also, coming from a prosperous merchant family, her modest wealth was also eyed upon).  Ultimately, she fell for a gregarious, occasionally boisterous yet kind-hearted apple farmer named Apple Seed.  Following their marriage, they had two daughters:  Sew ‘n Sow and Applesauce.  Her eldest Sew ‘n Sow inherited her penchant for sewing, while her youngest Applesauce inherited her love of “finer” pursuits; both were well-mannered.  During the Great Slump, she gained a reputation for her charitable activities, helping both town and country pony-folk alike without discrimination.  When good times returned to Equestria, she (along with her husband) sponsored local recreational events. Up to the end of her life, she and her husband Apple Seed maintained a healthy correspondence with their daughters and their families.

SEW ‘N SOW
Race = Earth
Residence = Sweet Apple Acres (born in the area just southwest of Baltimare)
Occupation = Apple Farmer
Personality Traits = Stern, but Affectionate; has some Jealous Tendencies; Take-Charge Attitude; Plain Spoken (accentuated by her flat tone of voice and Southern accent); Stubborn
--Likes/Hobbies:  Sewing; Cooking; Gardening; Socializing
--Dislikes:  Laziness; Liars; Infidelity; Complaining
Cutie-Mark = A Sewing Machine

-- Brown “Brownie” Sugar (Sister-in-Law)
--Goldie Delicious (Niece)
--Ozark Trail (Father-in-Law)
--Prairie Fire (Mother-in-Law)

  • Sew ‘n Sow was a slight outlier in her apple-oriented family; as she grew older, she preferred to knit and sew over tending to the family’s small orchards.  In addition to an interest and skill in woven work, Sew also inherited her low key demeanor from her mother (but none of its gracefulness; her younger sister Applesauce was the societal “belle” in the family).  She became successful and very skilled at what she did, and sold a good deal of her products at local markets.  During one such sale, she met, befriended, and eventually courted an equally plain-spoken farmer named Pokey Oaks.  After a few years, they were married, and the two eventually had three foals – Prairie Tune, Happy Trails, and Apple “Annie” Smith.  During the early years of her marriage, she lived on her husband’s small family farm, and soon became the “matriarch” of the family – becoming responsible for the maintenance of the farm, the education of her offspring, cooking the meals, etc. When the farm was foreclosed, the family took to the road, and (following a relatively brief stay with Pokey’s brother Oakey) began to travel throughout Equestria and made their living by collecting seeds and selling them at whatever markets they stopped at.

  • After Ponyville and Sweet Apple Acres were firmly established, Sew ‘n Sow had a relatively easier life. With her grown sons now maintaining Sweet Apple Acres, she devoted more and more time to her sewing.  She was also responsible for organizing Apple Family reunions.  She died 10 years after her husband and just before the birth of her great-granddaughter Applejack.

  • The eldest foal of Pokey Oaks and Sew 'n Sow, Prairie Tune was from the beginning a generally light-hearted and happy colt.  From an early age, he loved to sing, and as soon as he could walk he became fascinated with his father's banjo.  Playing the instrument whenever he could, he gradually became quite skilled and eventually earned a banjo as his cutie mark.  When he and his brother Happy Trails were still young colts (ages 6 and 4, respectively), the family's farm was foreclosed, and for the next 15 years the family lived a nomadic life, collecting a variety of seeds and selling them at whatever markets they visited.  To earn additional money at their stops, Prairie Tune played and sung on his banjo as ponies dropped bits in his hat.  All the while, even through adversity and hard times, he served as the family's morale booster.  Even so, he never went completely unaffected by his family's difficult circumstances, but rarely let it show externally.  After years of wandering in search for a place to settle down, the family finally took a liking to an area of land where they had camped for several days, not too distant from Canterlot.  Wanting an official claim to the land, his father Pokey planned to seek an audience with royal officials in Canterlot while the family attended a fair in the city.  When the day came however, they ended up meeting Princess Celestia herself (she happened to be attending the fair at the time, where the family was selling some of their seeds; they managed to get her attention and have an audience with her).  Following the family's official claim to the land and their subsequent success with Zap Apples, they finally able to live a comfortable, settled life.  Within the next few years, Prairie married Pine Apple (nicknamed "Bonnie"), a mare he had met during his visit to Canterlot.  Within the next few years, they had three foals - Bushel, Apple Munchies, and Apple Slice. During the early years of the marriage, they lived on Sweet Apple Acres until Prairie purchased a fertile homestead not far from Dodge Junction.  Once they moved there, Prairie started his own small apple orchard; he eventually became the second-most successful fruit grower in the area, behind the Cherry Family of Dodge Junction. He died two years before the events of "Friendship is Magic, Part 1"; Bushel, his family, and his sister Apple Munchies eventually moved to Appleloosa, while Apple Slice and his family remained on the homestead.

  • Growing up in the awkward position as the middle foal, Happy Trails (called "Hap" or "Haps" by his family) was an irony; despite his name, he was usually serious, cynical, and reserved. When he was 4, the family's farm was foreclosed, leading to 15 years of a nomadic lifestyle.  Two years younger than Prairie Tune and 4 years older than Apple "Annie" (later Granny) Smith, Hap struggled to define himself between his two livelier siblings. Relative to his brother and sister, he felt himself to be the most "mature" and "responsible" (since he usually didn't rough-house, disobey his parents, or take "unecessary" risks).  He was also a foil to Prairie Tune, who was almost his complete opposite in terms of personality and interests.  Still, he was close to his brother and sister, and did whatever he could to supplement his family's seed income (in his case, he was a pretty good artist, and sold his sketches to anypony who would buy). Following the family's official claim to the land and their subsequent success with Zap Apples, they were finally able to live a comfortable, settled life.  During the family's first Zap Apple Jam sale, Hap met a graceful, sweet-natured mare, Daisy Belle, who was waiting in line; since the line was long, she offered to help out (partly as an excuse to speak to Hap).  Haps soon fell for her, too, and within several years were married.  The couple had two daughters, Apple Dumpling and Magdalena.  The young family lived a little longer on Sweet Apple Acres than his brother's family, but eventually moved to a large town in the Foal Mountain Range Valley.  Once there, he opened a grocery store, where he shared his profits with farmers who gave him their produce to sell.  He died between the fall and winter during the events of MLP:FiM's Season 1.

  • A smooth-talking, well-dressed and well-groomed stallion, Desert Rose was nonetheless a gentlecolt.  Hailing from a small town in the San Palomino Desert, at a young age he decided to apprentice at a confectionery shop in a small town near Baltimare.  With the death of his boss, he inherited the shop, and soon turned it into a thriving, popular local business.  At a local event sponsored by Apple Seed, he met and fell for Seed’s youngest daughter Applesauce (who was almost ten years his junior).  Despite the age gap, Applesauce was smitten by his charms, and the two soon began a courtship not long after her sister Sew ‘n Sow was married.  Within several years, they married, and soon had their firstborn Candy Twirl, followed by Apple Rose (around Granny Smith's age) several years later.  Attracted by opportunities on the west coast, Desert Rose decided to move his young family to Applewood (near Los Pegasus).  Re-establishing his confectionery store, he found even greater success than he had before, and was able to support a comfortable lifestyle for his family.  Always gregarious, he thoroughly enjoyed accompanying to and partaking in the Apple Family reunions with his wife and daughters.  However, during one such reunion, a pestilence happened to sweep the Ponyville area, and many family members in attendance fell ill.  Tragically, the only death in the family was his eldest daughter Candy Twirl.  Greatly saddened and shocked, it took him, Applesauce and Apple Rose a great deal of time to recover from the loss; they did eventually recover, but he never attended another reunion.  He died 10 years before the events of “Friendship is Magic, Part 1”.

Could I use these trees as references for my own mlp family trees? I'll replace the ocs with my own so I'm not, like, thieving ocs or anything dw abt that!! i also plan on changing up some names of the spouses so it feels like they arent in the family and its not weird LOL
